Adele Mara..............Born Adelaide Delgado in 1925 Spanish-American Adele Mara was a singer/dancer with Xavier Cugat and His Orchestra in Detroit by the age of 15. Cugat sent the gorgeous brunette, who had brown-eyed eyes, for a visit to New York. A Columbia talent scout noticed her and she signed on in 1942. She acted as brisk lead women in a string of boring B films including Vengeance of the West (1942) with Tex Ritter and Alias Boston Blackie (1942) which starred Chester Morris. Her transformation came a couple of years later into a sexy platinum blonde pin-up when she was signed to Republic Studios. The actress was in high demand at Republic Studios, mostly playing senoritas opposite Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. She was also fetching fodder in crime dramas, including Blackmail (1947) as well as Web of Danger (1947) as well as an enjoyable distraction in adventure pictures such as Wake of the Red Witch (1948) featuring John Wayne and The Avengers (1950). Her best roles were in Angel In Exile, (1948), and Sands of Iwo Jima, (1949) with Duke Wayne. In the 1950s, she was given fewer chances to showcase her talent as an actress. The Big Circus (1959), with Victor Mature was her final performance. Adele later moved to TV and was the subject of several guest spots mostly in westerns. When she got married to TV producer Roy Huggins, who created many hits including 77 Sunset Strip in 1958 and Maverick in 1957, she decided to begin a family. The actress would be a guest on several of these. The couple was blessed with three children. Huggins died in 2002.
